MILLION DOLLAR Hole-In-One Golf Shootout
Official Rules and Regulations
Overall rules and regulations:
- The competition is open to amateur golfers over eighteen (18) years of age only!
Professional golfers are ineligible. A professional golfer is simply defined as a member of any
professional golf club or golf organization at the current time or one who has held a professional
golf certificate as recently as thirty (30) days prior to opening day of the Hole-in-One Shootout.
In addition, any person acting as a 'golf pro' and receiving compensation for being a golf
professional in the teaching of other golfers or operating any type of golf organization is also not
eligible to compete in this event.
- Competitors, hereinafter referred to as 'shooters', must use the colored balls provided by the
event coordinators. A shooter may not provide his/her own set of balls for this competition. The
entry fee is the purchase of balls for play. Balls may be purchased in several ways:
- Local youth and civic organizations will be pre-selling tickets for the event; or
- Additional balls may be purchased at the event site on the event day(s) from the
event coordinator's ball sales staff at the registration desk.
- There is no restriction on the number of balls that may be purchased by any individual to
compete in the preliminary rounds of this competition.
- Checks, cash, VISA, MasterCard and Discover will be accepted as payment for any balls
purchased on-site at the event. (American Express will not be accepted)
- All shooters must read and sign an Official Entry Application and Release Form before receiving
their allotment of balls to shoot.
- Preliminary rounds will be held at the times and locations specified on the face of your ticket.
See below under "Preliminary Rounds" for more details on this aspect of the competition.
- The Semi-final round of this competition will be held at the times and locations specified at the
time that you take part in the preliminary round(s). See below under "Semi-Final Round" for
more details on this aspect of the competition.
- Each shooter must present his official ticket to the registration desk in order to be authorized to
receive his allotment of distinctly colored balls. Additional balls may be purchased at this time
by a shooter that intends to shoot more balls than his original ticket allows. Not purchasing at
this point in time (at registration) may cause the shooter to have to 'go to the end of the line' to
purchase his additional shots.
- Shooter may use any club that he/she so desires as long as it is a legal golf club for use on a golf
course. No other devices may be utilized. Coordinator will make several clubs available for
shooter's use in the event that shooter does not provide his/her own.
- Each shooter must hit his ball from the prescribed 'tee area'! Each shot must be performed in
accordance with generally acceptable golf rules. A thrown ball will not be accepted.
- There will be no 'do-overs' or 'mulligans' - if a shot is mishit, it still counts! If a ball merely gets
'blown' off the tee by the club passing over it, it shall be allowed to be 're-racked' and shot
again.
- There is no official time limit for a contestant to hit their allotment of balls. The event
coordinator asks that all contestants simply be aware of those behind them in line and be
considerate. Coordinator reserves the right to ask a contestant to step aside in order to allow
others to 'play through' at Coordinator's own discretion.
- Officials will be on duty at all times during the contest. Their discretion in all matters is final and
indisputable. Officials shall exercise the right to question eligibility of any participant for any
reason. Eligibility may be revoked at the sole discretion of Tournament Officials based on such
considerations as extreme or unusual conduct, or on the basis of the use of unfair,
unrecognized, or illegal golfing apparatus or equipment. Officials may stop play at any time and
reserve the right to require contestants to speed up play, give up the tee to entrants who have
waited more than a reasonable time or to cease activity determined by Officials to be unsafe,
objectionable, or unfair. Permission to participate in this contest may be revoked at any time.
- Officials will observe the 'green' area throughout the contest.
- Official records will be posted on the scoreboard in the registration area at the conclusion of
each day's round as well as on the event website at www.bpoptimists.org.
- Only clear shots to the target area for all rounds are allowed. Only Tournament Officials may
disqualify a ball. In the event of dispute, the USGA Rules of Golf will govern.
- Each shooter understands that his or her entry into this event constitutes permission to use his
or her name and likeness for advertising and publicity purposes without any additional
compensation. Each shooter is aware that participation in this event may have a bearing on his
or her amateur status. Each shooter is solely responsible for making determinations as to the
consequences of participating in this event.
- All persons participating in the Optimist Business and Professional Club of Conejo Valley's
"$1,000,000 Hole-in-One Shootout" do so at their own risk. The Optimist Business and
Professional Club of Conejo Valley and all other sponsors as may be involved in the event from
time to time assume no responsibility for personal injury, loss or damage to personal, private or
other property and equipment claimed lost or damaged which may be sustained by shooters or
their guests. Shooter hereby agrees to hold the Optimist Business and Professional Club of
Conejo Valley and all other sponsors as may be involved in the event from time to time harmless
of any and all acts, including negligence.
- Winner(s) names will be available by checking the afore-mentioned website after the event.
Merchandise prizes will be distributed to winner(s) not later than forty-five (45) days after the
conclusion of the "Championship Play-Off" Final Round.
- The "Championship Play-Off" Final Round will be held at the location specified in the Semi-Final
round with a tee and green to be determined by the Coordinators. The coordinators reserve the
right to reschedule the "Championship Play-Off" Final Round depending on weather and crowd
conditions, or access to the course.
Rules and Regulations for "Preliminary" rounds:
- These rounds are preliminary in nature and are to be used strictly to qualify shooters to move
on in to the later rounds.
- The pin (hole) will be placed at approximately 125 yards from the tee.
- There will be a six foot (6') diameter circle around the flag.
- Whenever a ball lands in or near the circle, the official spotter may hold up a "STOP" sign so that
he/she may verify the 'lie' of the ball. All shooters must stop shooting until this task has been
completed.
- Each shooter whose ball lands, after a legal shot, inside the prescribed circle around the pin
during these rounds will qualify for the Semi-Final Play-Off Round. A shooter may qualify more
than once. They will earn one (1) semi-final shot for each ball landing inside the circle in the
preliminary rounds. "Inside the circle" means just that - no part of the ball may be touching the
demarcation of the circle on the ground. The decision of the Tournament Officials as to whether
or not a shot is 'inside the circle' is final and indisputable. Shooters may not, at any time, enter
the 'fairway' area under any circumstances.
- Any shooter making a hole-in-one during any of the preliminary rounds will automatically qualify
for the "Championship Play-Off" Final Round, thusly 'leaping over' the semi-final round and will
earn the title of 'Ace' for the remainder of the shootout.
- Officials will also periodically stop play to clear balls from the target area. Official records will be
posted in the registration area at the conclusion of each day's round as well as on the website at
www.bpoptimists.org.
- All shooters that qualify in the preliminary rounds shall qualify to be called "semi-finalists" and
move on to the Semi-Final round.
Additional Rules and Regulations for the Semi-Final round:
- This round is also a 'qualifying round'.
- Each 'semi-finalist' shooter that qualified in the preliminary rounds will get one shot per
preliminary qualifying ball in this semi-final round.
- This round is basically a "closest to the hole" shootout.
- Up to a minimum of twenty-five (25) shooters, including all 'Aces' from the preliminary rounds,
will qualify in this round to move on to the "Championship Play-Off" round, where they will vie
for the $ 1,000,000 grand prize money, as well as other prizes.
- Only the shooter who qualified to be a 'semi-finalist' in the preliminary rounds will be allowed to
compete in the Semi-Final round. Driver's license or other acceptable form of 'picture'
identification may be required in this round.
- Officials will periodically stop play to measure and then clear balls from the target area. The
distance from the center of the ball to the edge of the hole will be measured and the results will
be recorded. Official records will be posted in the registration area at the conclusion of each
day's round as well as on the website at www.bpoptimists.org.
- Any shooter making a hole-in-one during the semi-final round will earn the title of 'Ace' for the
remainder of the shootout.
- All 'semi-finalists' that qualify in this round shall qualify to be called 'finalists' and move on to
the "Championship Play-Off" round.
Rules and Regulations for the "Championship Play-Off" Final Round:
- This is the final Championship Shoot-Out for the $ 1,000,000 grand prize as well as many other
valuable prizes.
- All finalists will receive at least one (1) prize in this "Championship Play-Off" final round. ALL
prizes are non-transferrable.
- Only the shooter who qualified in the semi-final round to be a 'finalist' will be allowed to
compete in the "Championship Play-Off" Final round. Driver's license or other acceptable form
of 'picture' identification will be required in this round.
- Finalists, as determined in the semi-final round, will be awarded one (1) shot each in the final
round, with the competitive order to be determined by the Event Coordinator. No finalist may
have more than one (1) consecutive shot in the "Championship Play-Off" Final round.
- All finalists must have signed an Official Entry Application and Release Form to be eligible to
receive the $ 1,000,000 grand prize award.
- The $ 1,000,000 grand prize money is to be paid as an annuity in 480 increments of
approximately $ 2,083.33 monthly for each hole-in-one made in the designated hole in this
round. An alternative grand prize of merchandise, equivalent to the present value of this cash
annuity, will be awarded only if the shooter has elected such option on the Official Entry
Application and Release Form signed prior to the competition.
- The actual schedule of payments will be announced within ten (10) days after certification of
eligibility by the underwriting insurance company.
- Standard "rights of survivorship" shall apply to any award of the $ 1,000,000 grand prize.
- In addition to the $ 1,000,000 grand prize, there will be eighteen (18) other holes that can earn
the shooter a minimum of $ 10,000 in cash or prizes for a hole-in-one.
- Finalists shall forfeit their position in the Championship Play-Off if not present at the designated
time (a default time of exactly thirty (30) minutes will be allowed) or are unable, for any reason,
to participate.
